In Joan of Arc’s canonization trial, the Devil’s Advocates made serious charges against her modesty, temperance, humility, fortitude, perseverance, and military mission. In spite of fierce rebuttals by the defense team, the jury of Consultors found much merit in the accusations, but the judges (the cardinals and pope) gave her a resounding acquittal.
