Présentation

À propos de cette édition. — La Jeanne d’Arc de Mark Twain a d’abord été publiée en feuilleton dans le mensuel Harper’s Magazine, — 13 livraisons (d’avril 1895 à avril 1896) couvrant l’ensemble des 74 chapitres des trois livres, — avant de paraître en volume relié en mai 1896 (Harper and Brothers). À partir de 1899, l’ouvrage ne sera plus publié qu’au sein des différentes éditions des Œuvres complètes de Mark Twain (The Writings of Mark Twain), où, en raison de son ampleur, il est divisé en deux volumes (le premier s’achevant au livre II, chapitre 7).

Pour la présente édition, nous avons retenu la dernière version en un seul volume (Harper and Brothers, 1906). Nous avons également reproduit les titres des chapitres tels qu’ils apparaissent dans la première édition publiée après la mort de Twain : la seconde Author’s National Edition, parue en 1913.
